After a little more than 700 white rocks, we now have a stone on every Jewish grave in the old and new cemeteries at Highland Lawn, with help from Wilma Turetzky, Jackie Silver and Jessica Claycomb. It took us two days, but it was well worth it.
After an exceptionally long, drawn out, brutal and divisive election cycle, I am sadly reminded that throughout history there have been numerous examples in which the Jewish people have become so disconnected and so disrespectful toward one another that it led to division and even bloody conflict.
This is the season of gift-giving. Hanukkah will be upon us before we know it. And, if you have Christian relatives, Christmas gifts might be exchanged as well. Material gifts, however, are primarily temporary. Toys get outgrown or broken and clothing wears out. Even larger gifts, such as electronics, break and must be recycled.
