United Hebrew Congregation remembers three ladies for January 2017

By Norma Collins

UHC Secretary Norma Collins wrote this column for the January 2017 edition of Hadashot.

The three ladies we remember this month: Beulah “Terry” Brodie, Deloris Fishman and Alice Levine Yalowitz.

Beulah “Terry” Brodie… Terry was born in Galveston, Texas, to Fred and Ann Ruth Bergman. Terry was a 59-year member of United Hebrew Congregation and its Sisterhood. She was a bookkeeper for Kor-X-All and also worked in sales at Schultz Department Store. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She derived great pleasure working as a foster grandparent at Fuqua Elementary School. The love and kindness for her friends and commitment as a foster grandparent were evidenced through the smile you saw on her face. She truly glowed when doing for others.

Deloris Fishman… Deloris was born in Farmersburg to Fred and Gertrude (Railsback) Hammack. Her husband Joe Fishman preceded her in death. She practiced nursing early in life, was an active and lifelong member of United Hebrew Congregation and a life member and past president of Hadassah. She also was active in several Jewish organizations and was an artist. How happy I am to say I was given a piece of her beautiful art.

Alice Levine Yalowitz… Alice was born in Joliet, Illinois, and preceded by her husband, Harold. Alice worked for many years at Kor-X-All. She enjoyed her three children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the fullest. After the passing of her son-in-law, she moved to Indianapolis to help her daughter with her children. When you were in Alice’s presence you felt special. Her gift of truly listening always made a person feel she had truly enjoyed being with you.
