The board will review accomplishments of the past year, fill expiring seats and plan for the year ahead.

In Terre Haute, UHC member and Kristallnacht survivor Walter Sommers spoke at CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center, where he serves as a docent, and participated in a candle-lighting the honor the victims of the Holocaust.

A day later, UHC and Theater presented a staged reading of This Side of Eternity: The Story of Kristallnacht, by former Terre Haute resident Christopher Bibby.

Herschel Chait led Shabbat services in the sanctuary before all moved downstairs to the Vestry Room, where Herschel and UHC President Betsy Frank led a spirited Seder service.

Student Rabbi Kylynn Perdue-Bronson marked her first High Holy Days officiating "for grownups", proceeding neatly and efficiently through the service, which marked the congregation's seasonal return to the upstairs sanctuary.

Rabbi Kylynn will serve UHC Terre Haute throughout the 2017-18 academic year. She will officiate Erev Rosh Hashanah services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, and lead the congregation throughout the High Holy Days.

Even more encouraging, those visitors came motivated to listen and learn. "I was pleasantly surprised not only that we got the turnout we did but the people who did attend were really interested," says Usler, based at the Western Regional Office in Terre Haute. "They spent a lot of time trying to learn and understand."
