Most recently, we dined at the new Lucia's Taqueria at Brown and Wabash avenues and Grand Traverse Pie Company, just south of the ISU campus.

The first community project we're working on for 2023 is to provide support for newborns at Union Hospital. We welcome your donations!

Covid has kept us apart for much of 2020 and 2021. But in the meantime, the congregation has added a few members and we’d love to welcome them.

Call Norma at the Temple at (812) 232-5988 to RSVP or use our contact form.

A few Sisterhood members got together in late October to discuss ideas and projects as Wilma invited Jackie and me to her home for coffee and cake. We talked travel and family and scrapbooking and art projects and had such an enjoyable visit.

I had just returned from an event-filled 17 days in South Padre Island, Texas, to visit my son Grant and daughter-in-law Dawn. It was my first trip since my husband Ralph passed away in June.

Sisterhood to lay stones at Highland Lawn, publishes large-format 2021-22 directory https://www.unitedhebrewth.org/sisterhood-to-lay-stones-at-highland-lawn-publishes-large-format-2021-22-directory/ https://www.unitedhebrewth.org/sisterhood-to-lay-stones-at-highland-lawn-publishes-large-format-2021-22-directory/#respond Fri, 09 Apr 2021 13:00:46 +0000 https://www.unitedhebrewth.org/?p=15116 With the arrival of Spring, I have a worthy project for Sisterhood and any Temple members who would like to participate.

Wilma, Jackie and I have twice visited Highland Lawn Cemetery to place stones on Jewish graves, and we’re planning to return on a to-be-determined day in May to do so again.

Placing a stone on a headstone is a simple way to remember those who played vibrant roles in our Temple community and are now gone, and whose family members are not here to honor them.

I also want to thank everyone for the phone calls and emails letting me know how much you have enjoyed the new large-format, 2021-22 Sisterhood directory we recently published and mailed.

Religious school performs a mitzvah; turkey with latkes loses its luster https://www.unitedhebrewth.org/religious-school-performs-a-mitzvah-turkey-with-latkes-loses-its-luster/ https://www.unitedhebrewth.org/religious-school-performs-a-mitzvah-turkey-with-latkes-loses-its-luster/#respond Wed, 16 Dec 2020 14:00:06 +0000 https://www.unitedhebrewth.org/?p=14303 I am pleased to report that with your contributions, Sisterhood was able to help UHC religious school raise $547 for the Vigo County School Corporation Backpack Program.

The Backpack Program provides food for at-risk children during weekends when they have no access to school breakfasts and lunches.

Our students adopted the program as their Mitzvah project for the year.

Thanks to all who donated!

Thanksgiving dinner may experience some adjustments as we alter routines to protect our families. Hanukkah is coming in December and it, too, won’t be the same. Sisterhood will not operate its traditional Hanukkah gift shop this year.

Religious school remains involved in the community and has taken on the Vigo County School Corporation Backpack Program as its latest project.

But I guess time loses its meaning as this Covid-19 has really messed up the days and months in our lives.

Every evening, Ralph wants to know my plan for the next day.

Sometimes I tell him I think I will take a long trip and I will be back when this is over.

Of course, I know my family needs me here and we have no idea when our predicament will end. We just live day by day and stay home until it’s necessary to go out.

We've rescheduled for the same time and location, noon Tuesday, Dec. 10. The weather forecast calls for 28 degrees and cloudy, but no snow! Please join us.

Hanukkah will begin the evening of Sunday, Dec. 22, so now is the time to visit our holiday gift shop in the Vestry Room.

Please come on out, and bring some new ideas for Sisterhood projects. I'm thinking of a small fundraiser. If you have a charity in mind, please let me know!
