The High Holy Days are approaching, and as we begin serious reflection to prepare ourselves for worship, the UHC board and Pulpit Committee have been addressing the holidays’ logistical demands.
UHC will welcome Student Rabbi Kylynn Perdue-Bronson to the bimah for the High Holy Days.
The Temple board has also arranged for Ms. Yana Weinstein to serve as UHC soloist for Erev Rosh Hashanah and Kol Nidre. Ms. Weinstein teaches at Indiana State University and lives in Bloomington.
Again this year, the UHC board will host the Break-the-Fast immediately following the Ne’ilah service concluding Yom Kippur.
UHC thanks Betsy and Dick Frank and Jo Einstandig for hosting Kylynn during the High Holy Days. And we are grateful to Herschel Chait for arranging Ms. Weinstein’s participation.
Torah studies with Student Rabbi Kylynn set to begin
Torah Study will begin with Student Rabbi Kylynn on Saturday, October 21.
Kylynn and the board met in August and discussed expanding the popular Saturday Torah studies to include a second class.
This is a new venture for adult religious education at UHC that will give those interested in Torah study two different options:
- In-depth Torah study — This is a more advanced traditional study group. Participants will discuss and debate points of interest in the weekly Parshah. The Hebrew text will be valuable during the study. Kylynn will also include portions of the Talmud.
- Prepared outline — This new Torah study will involve Student Rabbi-led discussions designed to promote personal understanding of the weekly Parshah. Kylynn intends to provide participants a “toolbox”, including a variety of commentaries.
Each class will last 45 minutes, from 9-9:45 a.m. and 10-10:45 a.m. Congregants are welcome to attend both classes.
Kylynn will also continue with the Temple’s second year of Torah discussion at Westminster Village.
Kylynn will also continue with the Temple’s second year of Torah discussion at Westminster Village.
Last year, Student Rabbi Aaron Rozovsky initiated these successful discussions open to residents of all faiths.
This important Shabbat community outreach allows the public to become better acquainted with Judaism while providing the Jewish residents of Westminster opportunities to study with the student rabbi.
