Hazel Anderson Loewenstein (1914-1996), was a formidable addition to the Terre Haute community. Born and reared a Mormon in Utah, Hazel converted to Judaism when she married Dr. Werner Loewenstein (1909-1990) in 1941. Whether mobilizing Sisterhood ladies to bake for an oneg or serving as the president of the PTA, Hazel could always be counted on to do more than her share.

Jackie and Steve Silver celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, and Student Rabbi Aaron Rozovsky marked the occasion by calling the Silvers to to the bemah to participate in a special Torah reading during Friday Shabbat services.

Subjects at three sessions on Feb. 11 and Feb. 18 will include the timely “Jewish Stances on Immigration”; Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish New Year for Trees; and Parshah Yitro.
