We have just finished celebrating the High Holy Days. How gratifying it was to look out over the congregation and see familiar faces — those who attend regularly, those from out of town who come home for the holidays, and those who are in town, but whom we don’t see often.
Temple celebrates Sukkot with outdoor service
Student Rabbi Aaron Rozovsky conducted a morning Sukkot service for Sunday school students, parents and United Hebrew Congregation Terre Haute members Oct. 23 at the Sukkah raised a week earlier in the yard just behind Temple Israel.

Sisterhood conducts cemetery spruce-up
Members of United Hebrew Congregation Terre Haute Sisterhood met Tuesday in the old Jewish section of Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute to tidy up the area and place white stones on the graves.
Sisterhood President Patty Lewis said the group distributed more than 400 stones, which indicate graveside visits and honor the deceased.
Sisterhood sets cemetery project, agenda for upcoming meetings
United Hebrew Congregation Terre Haute Sisterhood will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the old Jewish section at Highland Lawn Cemetery, to spruce up markers and headstones.
They’ll pay particular attention to graves that no longer receive family visits and will mark each grave with small stones, according to Jewish tradition.
