Temple counters social distancing with seder, Shabbat, Torah study via Zoom teleconference

As I was thinking about a topic for this month, the title of one of my favorite novels came to mind, Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Coronavirus is our modern-day cholera or plague. To say the least, we live in interesting times.

And these times call for creative ways to stay connected. We have begun to make those connections by purchasing a Zoom videoconferencing account for our Temple community.

Sisterhood reschedules; declares Hanukkah store open for business

An early winter blast led Sisterhood to cancel its November meeting, scheduled for Grand Traverse Pie Company, 75 North Third St. in Terre Haute.

We’ve rescheduled for the same time and location, noon Tuesday, Dec. 10. The weather forecast calls for 28 degrees and cloudy, but no snow! Please join us.

Hanukkah will begin the evening of Sunday, Dec. 22, so now is the time to visit our holiday gift shop in the Vestry Room.

Celebrants fill Vestry Room for Passover seder

A record crowd for the Terre Haute diaspora era of more than 50 people filled the Vestry Room for the annual community Passover seder Friday, April 19, at United Hebrew Congregation.

Herschel Chait led Kabbalat Shabbat in the sanctuary and, adorned in seasonal matzoh tie and kippah, shared seder-hosting duties with Temple president Betsy Frank.
