It all started in 1965. I was working at O’Day’s downtown when this tall, good-looking young man came in with a friend.
I knew I was going to marry him someday. Later, I learned he also picked me out that lucky day.

Max and Bess came to Terre Haute in 1944 from Chicago. They opened JEBBS, a propane gas company in 1946. Max being the family man, he named the business “JEBBS”, with his family in mind.

In March, I found myself in Springfield, Ill., for National Guard duty. Having a couple hours off in between military obligations, I decided to visit President Lincoln’s tomb.
As I entered the tomb, I was overcome by an overwhelming sense of patriotism and pride both as an American and as a Jew.
